Acupuncture draws on the TCM concept that energy, also called Qi, circulates throughout our body along energetic pathways called meridians. When we are in good health, this energy flows unobstructed along the meridians. Each meridian is believed to be connected to a specific organ system. When an energy flow is disrupted by a pathogen – an infectious agent or germ – or an injury, the body will suffer from illness or pain.
Acupuncture uses thin, sterile needles to penetrate and stimulate specific acupoints along the meridians to restore internal balance and stimulate our body’s natural ability to heal. Through our trained physicians and acupuncturists, this treatment is carried out hygienically and safely.
Auricular therapy is a therapeutic method in which needles are inserted into specific points on the ear to treat various disorders of the body. TCM believes that the ear is a microcosm of the whole body. When the organs are in disharmony, it will be reflected on the auricle of the ear. By stimulating acupoints on the ear, the body's internal organs, structures, and functions can be regulated. Auricular therapy is widely used for many conditions including: addiction treatment, mood disorders, obesity, pain, and many other conditions.
Ear acupuncture points may be stimulated for a longer period of time by using ear seeds. Ear seeds are small seeds from the Vaccaria plant. These seeds are held in place on the ear with a small piece of adhesive tape. Ear seeds may be replaced every four to seven days. To enhance effect, pressing on the pellets could be done two to three times a day. Gentle pressure is to be applied to each pellet for one minute during
each pressing cycle.
