What do needles have to do with conceiving? As two women found out, acupuncture needles can help them battle their infertility. We asked them about their experience.
Ms Jessica Fong, 35 years old
My husband and I began our quest for a child in 2005. Our success was short-lived as I suffered a miscarriage in May 2006. It did not help that my husband’s sperm quality was not good and I was also having irregular periods. When I heard about RCM and its fertility services through a news report in September 2007, I started coming for regular treatments. Since then, I feel more relaxed and started enjoying more peaceful sleep.
As I am going for my IVF booster, I found that the RCM fertility service complements my treatment. I am also taking the advice of my physician, Ms Jin Jin Hua, to rest more and watch my diet to improve my chances in conceiving.
Ms Serena Loh, 30 years old
I started trying for a baby two years ago. However, I had PCOS, which could impair my fertility and my periods were irregular, making it diffi cult to determine the ovulation period.
I read about RCM's infertility treatment on Straits Times. That got me curious and I started a once weekly treatment of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medication as dispensed by my physician,Ms Seah Ai Wei from July 2007.
The first significant exterior change I noticed was my acne condition. Due to PCOS which causes hormonal imbalance, I often have pimple breakouts. After my treatment, my pimple outbreaks came under control and eventually my skin condition cleared up.
Thereafter, my period became less erratic and the intervals were narrowed down. Ms Seah advised me to exercise more frequently so as to pump up my ‘chi’ (energy). She also advised me on the types of foods to avoid, which helped reduce my weight.
The good news to my story is that I became pregnant in January 2008. This was extremely great news for me and I am glad that I did not have to go through other forms of costly fertility treatment such as IVF in order to conceive.
